For several months I have been on the lookout for one of those neat spin art sets but both Chris and I have yet to come across one that seemed worth the money. But knowing my sons, especially my paint lover Levi I knew that they would love to try spin art. So I got a little creative and bought a cheap salad spinner, cut some heavy paper into circles to fit in the bottom of the basket and got out our poster paints. We went to town it was so much fun and it worked really well!
As soon as I told Levi we were doing a paint project this morning he was racing around the house collecting all the supplies for me. He could not contain himself and Simon was quite excited about it too. We started by doing little dots of paint and layering each time taking turns spinning the salad spinner as fast as we could. Honestly I was even really excited to see what would happen.
It was so simple and so much fun! About halfway through I got smart and put the salad spinner on a rimmed cookie sheet to catch the excess paint flowing out of the bottom. It made for much easier clean up in the end.
We will be doing this again very soon I know it! If you have a salad spinner and paint I am telling you this is a fun summer activity that your kids will go crazy for (and you too :))!
Now my mind is spinning with ideas on how to use our colorful finished product!
Happy Monday Friends!

ReplyDeleteHi Rebekah,
ReplyDeleteIm going to ask you a really dumb question - how do you get your photos so large on your blog? Mine are tiny! Is it to do with with the actualy byte size of the photos, or is there a setting that I can't seem to find? Please help!

I would love it if you'd stop by and submit this to be featured! (I link to you, I don't post your tutorial on the site) Feel free to submit as many kid friendly craft tutorials as you like! http://funfamilycrafts.com/
I do crafts everyday for two months every summer at a campground and the kids just love this craft. They insist that we do this at least twice. I have also used small canvas (the kid you can buy at the dollar store. We have also drawn a picture on the plate/canvas before adding the paint. We have also glued on wooden buttons or other objects before adding paint. We have also sprinkled glitter on the wet paint after removing it from the sinner. I have found the spinner with the rope makes nicer designs because it has the paint spin one way and then the other.
ReplyDeleteHi, there,
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for this tutorial.
I just bought a salad spinner for spin art, but wanted to read someone's "how-to" and found this great post on Google.
Cheers!

Just ran into this as I prepare for my son, Levi's, first birthday ..:) got so excited, first, that you have a son named levi who likes art and second, that this would be a cute station for his monster brunch party.. thank you.. will be reading more of your posts..
