dirty chai latte over ice

I love coffee, duh, we all love coffee right? Okay wrong my husband doesn't like coffee but you know what I say? Teach him how to make me coffee and then there is really more for me. :)

I love hot coffee in the morning and recently switched over to the Nespresso system after enjoying my snobby vintage La Pavoni manual press for years. Truthfully the Nespresso system is just so darn easy and SO yummy and I have been super happy with it thus far although it isn't exactly cheap at sixty cents per pod but I really love coffee, like I said and so I am willing to pay for the good stuff.

In the afternoon I like an iced shot over soy or almond milk but lately I have gone with the "dirty chai" instead. Its a little sweet and spicy and perfect for this ho hum time of year. Have you ever tried a dirty chai latte? It's basically a chai tea latte with a shot...making it, dirty. I say it makes it extra yum and um...lots more caffeine to get me through the crazy 4-6 o'clock hour...OK lets face it the entire rest of the evening including the bedtime routine. Phew I am exhausted just thinking about that!

To make a dirty chai latte simply fill your glass (or jar :)) with ice, add roughly 1/3 cup to 1/2 cup of chai tea concentrate and about 1/3 cup of whatever milk you prefer. Then get all crazy with a shot of coffee...mm I think I might just make one for myself next.

Hope you are enjoying this Tuesday afternoon...good luck to those of you heading into the "witching hour" :)!

xoxo

    1. ha! well I did love it but it takes quite a bit of prep and a top notch grinder (which I kept and love) the nespresso system is a pod system but the crema it produces is pretty much out of this world...I do love a good manual espresso machine though for the quality and tinkering ability!

    1. I KNOW - my sister was the one who first introduced me too and I could not stop thinking about it so I finally took the plunge but it helped that I could sell my old one to pay for the new...it is an investment!

  11. Any tips on how to add the shot of coffee without a coffee machine at home? I just recently discovered Dirty Chais and LOVE them. Problem is, I only get them when I go to a coffee shop and I'd like to stop dropping money on drinks I could just make at home! :)

    1. well hmmm...I wonder if it would be as yummy with drip coffee? you could experiment with making strong coffee or even a cold brew and storing it in the fridge and try a similar ratio to get the flavor right. That's of course if you like them cold...my first espresso machine was a thrift store purchase though and I found the manual online and had great luck with it after tinkering around. You can often find them for really cheap...the other thought would be instant espresso powder those make a yummy iced latte too..

  12. Finally made the switch huh?! I miss my Nespresso so bad! That dirty chai looks divine. I'm learning that 'iced coffee' in NZ is made with ice cream. No joke and no good for the allergies! But guess that explains the $7 price tag! Saving my pennies for a new Pixie :)

  14. This drink was a college staple for me, as I was still getting into drinking actual coffee back then. At my school, it was called a Chai Bomb, which I think is an equally amazing name. This looks so delicious! That Nespresso thing is calling my name!!
