Zeb's first trip to the pumpkin patch

I sure love looking at these photos but lets face it four kids in the pouring down rain only lasted for so long. I think the final scene included something like this: Chris and I standing in the downpour and mud cleaning off an entire wheelbarrow full of pumpkins with baby wipes while the younger two screamed, someone spilled their hot chocolate all over the van floor, I then started cleaning the van with the wipes, there was mud everywhere...oh you know. I might have cried a teensy bit too once we were locked and loaded. I looked at Chris like a crazy lady and we both sighed and agreed that these wonderful traditions always sound so much better in our head. But I am so glad we braved it this year for our new little guys first time...and I have a feeling the kids had nothing but a blast so I guess in the end it was all worth it! Gotta love the pumpkin patch, did you brave it this year? :)

  1. beautiful pictures! and i agree, fun stuff and new traditions often seem picture perfect in the mind, and then when you try to ACTUALLY make it happen it feels like a disaster. but the kids don't know what it was "supposed" to be like, so to them, it WAS picture perfect :) you're a great momma!

  2. Beautiful pictures, beautiful kids. I love that you were honest about the reality behind the pictures...I just wrote a blog post on how I feel like crap reading peoples blogs with pictures of their beautiful homes even though I KNOW it's photo styling, it still gets to me. Pumpkin patches have been particularly trying this year. http://www.sheriffpeanut.com/blog/?p=634

  5. looks like a fun fall day, maybe minus the rain! haven't made to the pumpkin patch yet this year, but I am hoping once the rain clears out to take a trip before our baby arrives!

  6. we braved it this year as well - this past weekend at Bob's Corn in Snohomish. i went with a bunch of adult friends and my sister (age 18). i think some of us may have wanted to cry from trekking in the thick mud of the corn maze in the rain, but good thing they had lots of yummy foods to null the cold and muddy slipperyness. i can't imagine doing it with kiddies!

  8. Hahaha, I ALWAYS think that when I see all the smiling children and happy family photos. I work with children and know the whole not-so-glamorous side of things. I appreciate your honesty and your willingness to brave the chaos and give your children a good time. These photos really did turn out, too! Thanks for sharing!

  13. I'm not gonna lie I am totally chuckling over your description of how it all ended. Oh, just such a classic mess :) Especially the spilled cocoa! Definitely have been there. It always happens when I think it would be SOOO fun to take the kids out to a restaurant. Then you remember that they can't sit still, they are super picky, they are done eating after 4 bites, and the crayons only entertain so long... and you end up going home with your food in a box. Just a fun, CRAZY, season of life I guess! Love your photos :)

  14. Those are some beautiful pictures.
And I am so glad to know that our family adventures are not the only ones that turn into misadventures.
They will make great stories someday, right?
    Love from,
    Greta
