sponsor spotlight :: an interview with Brachel Boulevard + etsy giftcard giveaway!

I am so excited to welcome Rachel from Brachel Boulevard here today and to introduce you to her darling blog! She is a mother of two living abroad with her sweet husband Brandon, currently in Barcelona. She writes about their adventures together and shares fun recipes and craft ideas with lots of pictures of her adorable kids! I did a little interview with Rachel so that we could get to know her a bit more...and make sure to check out the fun giveaway at the bottom. Rachel is generously offering one reader a $25 gift card to Etsy. There are just about a million things I could think of to buy with one of those! OK without further ado, here is miss Rachel:

1. What is the name of your blog and the passion behind why you write it?

Our blog name is Brachel Boulevard. The term "Brachel", our self-proclaimed "celebrity couple" name, started as a joke. (Brandon + Rachel=Brachel) 4 years, 2 children and 14 countries later, it has come to represent all of the amazing things we have done together as a couple.

Our blog is our journal. We write about our travels, our ups & downs, our lives as a whole. I am a history major so I am passionate about preservation. Our blog is the way we reserve our memories.

2. Tell us a bit about yourself and your family

I'm a twenty something bookworm with a wanderlust that will never be fulfilled. Luckily, my husband has been infected with that same wanderlust. Brandon is a numbers guys, a cancer survivor and amputee. He is an inspiration to me and our children. Corbin is three and loves all things super heroes. Elizabeth is our little princess that is very attached to her Mommy (which I love most of the time).

3. A favorite date night memory with your sweetie

Brandon found a new exhibit at a museum that played music and had the words of the songs rotate around the room. We went on a date to the museum, spent the majority of the time looking at beautiful paintings and then he brought me into this music exhibit room, and started slow dancing with me.  We were the only ones in the room, and it was super romantic. He has yet to top that date!

4. A favorite indulgence

Some of you are gonna laugh at this but it's totally Regency novels! Ha ha I can sit down start reading a Regency novel & forget to make dinner! When I read, I indulge, I don't stop until it's done.

5. What countries have you lived in and which one is your favorite/why?

We have lived in the US, Belgium, & are currently living in Spain. The US will always be home but I must say Spain is making it's way up the ranks!

6. One thing you are looking forward to this Fall?

The sound of crunching leaves under my feet. It's the simple things like that that make me smile! :)

Just getting caught up a bit here with my weekly portraits I started really falling behind yikes! I so love this project I really really do...reminds that I am so blessed every single week!

Anthro inspired black cat block print scarf

Wow first post from me this week - how is it Friday again? Truthfully the past couple of weeks have been a blur around here I am sure you can relate. Starting back to school was a little crazier than I had anticipated and included some unexpected hiccups including a kid with a broken bone and two rounds of the stomach flu (yipes) among other things. But I have been busy behind the scenes working on projects and several writing jobs, I don't know if I have ever mentioned that I have taken on some writing work for a few websites with like real deadlines and such. It is exciting and nice to be bringing in some income for our family as more of a working stay at home mom but I've filled the old plate up pretty full too. As things (fingers crossed) let up a bit I promise I have much more to share here as we enter in to my favorite season (yay fall!) and next week is mine and my hubby's birthday week so I plan to get a date night out of it!!

Today I am over on the eighteen25 blog as part of their Spooktacular September series sharing a tutorial for this easy block print scarf inspired by this popular dress from Anthropologie and indie designer Leah Goren. Go check out the full tutorial here. I hope you have a wonderful fall weekend friends whatever you find yourself doing! Oh and congrats to miss Summer Crosbie on winning the Moccasins from last weeks giveaway I will be in touch! xoxo

Books and Bow-Ties for Baby Ben

My best friend Claire is due to have her first baby pretty much any day now. I am so so excited to meet her little boy, we have been dreaming about being Mom's together since high-school! I am sure I will be a puddle of emotions when I get to lay eyes on little Benjamin and his beautiful Mama glowing as she always does with such light and joy. I had the honor of hosting an intimate shower for her last weekend along with some help from friends Laura and Jenny and my MIL Paula and Step Mom Julia too who both jumped in and saved the day with kiddos and food prep and decorating while Chris was out of town for work!

We did a soft bow-tie and book theme and the weather was truly gorgeous. Laura brought yummy food and Jenny put together two adorable book themed cocktail/mocktails for the day. I made miniature ice cream cakes in jars and there were such sweet women who brought such thoughtful gifts and conversation it was really wonderful My little Josie Joan-Claire (named for her Auntie) was in attendance too helping serve coffee and open gifts, she was in heaven with all the ladies!

Thank you to all who helped pull off such a fun and special afternoon. I love you Claire more than life, we have walked many many seasons together and this next one I can tell is going to be so much fun!!

his and hers diy with Minnetonka Moccasins plus a giveaway!

I was so incredibly honored to have the opportunity to work with Minnetonka Moccasins recently on a his and hers DIY. I have been a huge fan of their moccasins for a long time, the pairs I have are so super comfortable I really love them. I chose to personalize the Suede Ankle Boots for myself and the Moosehide Double Bottom Softsole moccasins for Chris with a heart and arrow applique to create a sort of best friends pair. I am super excited to be sharing the entire project over on the Minnetonka blog today! Minnetonka is also generously giving away a pair of the Suede Ankle Boots to one lucky reader - perfect for fall! You can enter below until next Thursday the 19th. Back to School Dinner 2013

Our Back to School dinner was pretty toned down this year in comparison to years past, it's been a crazy month and I wasn't sure I could even pull it off but Simon reminded me about it and that he was expecting book worms again this time (gummy worms :)) so we got pizza and had a little evening together to celebrate the start of a new season.

I pulled out some vintage thermoses to use as vases and glasses that were my grandmothers and Chris's grandfathers too. I also stamped a bunting my step Mom had lying around her craft room with an apple and some paint. The grandparents each brought a yummy salad to add to the pizza and we sang happy birthday to Nana with an ice cream cake!

Each of the kids were given new books and backpacks and Josie got a new tutu and leotard for her dance class since she isn't doing preschool just yet. It was a really fun night all around and I am so glad we went for it the weather was beautiful and it felt like the official start of fall..I love these little traditions so much what a blessing it is to be a Mom!
