make something monday :: chocolate covered cherry bombs

Over the Fourth of July the boys and I came up with these "cherry bombs" cleverly named for the holiday and the smoke bombs Dad was playing with. We wanted something fun, festive and easy and dairy and egg free to share at the BBQ. I realize that chocolate covered cherries is not a new idea and it doesn't really take rocket science to figure out how to achieve this yummy treat but I have made them a few times since and feel like I need to celebrate even the most simple creative moments during this crazy season I am in. They always turn out so cute and are perfect to make with the kids so I thought I would share with you a few little tips to make these cuties.

First of all you don't need anything fancy. Just cherries, chocolate chips and sprinkles. We have tried out a few different kinds of sprinkles and decided that the ones up top, the tiny little round balls look the best but these ones here taste better...not so crunchy.

All you really need to do is wash and dry the cherries and melt about half a bag of the chips in a double boiler over low on the stove. A little chocolate goes a long way with these but you will need a lot of sprinkles so make sure to buy extra of those.

Line a baking sheet with parchment and then get to work dipping the cherries into the warm chocolate and then immediately into the sprinkles. I dip all the cherries with the stems and set aside the ones without to roll in the extra chocolate at the end. Those end up in a separate parchment lined dish as the reject bin...the best ones right :).

Pop them in the fridge for a bit to set up and then share at your next party. They look super cute on top of a sundae as well!

Hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

I couldn't help but pop in here this afternoon and share these few captures of my older three at the ceremony. It was a really beautiful wedding and my Sister was a gorgeous bride! Hoping to share more this week but wanted to say happy Monday to you, hope your week is off to a great start!

thursday :: through my lens

Playing with wire and gemstones a bit today for my sisters wedding this weekend...such an honor to make the jewelry for her big day! I wish I had hours and hours to play with my most favorite medium it felt good to get my hands sore and tight from creating jewelry again...

Ten on Ten :: July 2012

Today was one of my hardest so far with four little ones. It was full of crying and baby barf (what is it with me and babies who barf a lot?) and a little girl who was found with the contents of her diaper smeared all over her crib, face and everything else in between. I really earned the late night shower I finally got this evening...and that extra diet coke with lime and a cherry.

I am happy to report though that capturing this day with my lens was a wonderful exercise in digging for those special little moments that make life so beautiful. The ones that fill me to my core even when I am weary and smell like that baby spit up (Mr. Gough told me I smelled...in a nice way :)) and the essence of why I love this project so very much.

These ten hours that I documented during this warm July day in 2012 will forever remind me of what our life feels like right now and truly how lucky I am to be alive! It is all a gift even the smelly parts and I am so looking forward to seeing what your day held too.

Thank you all who captured this day along with me it is such a gift to share our lives together in this way each month...see you again in August!
