almond flavored cold brew coffee
Cold brew coffee is one of my favorite ways to drink my daily cup when the season changes a bit and iced coffee starts to sound good in the afternoon. I have made this many times but usually use vanilla and cinnamon along with the brown sugar and coarse grounds but this time I decided to try a little almond extract instead. I really loved the subtle almond flavor with a bit of soy creamer over ice.
Cold brewed coffee is simple and inexpensive if you have never done it before all you need is a small pitcher but I prefer to use my french press so that I don't have to strain out the grounds with a fine sieve or paper towel. But either way it's super yummy and fun!
Almond flavored cold brew coffee:
3/4 cup of coarse coffee grounds
3 Tbs brown sugar
2 teaspoons almond extract
a sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)
3 or 4 cups of cold water.
I just fill my french press but if you use a pitcher I think 3 to 4 cups should be good.
Pour everything into your french press and mix then let sit in your fridge over night. When ready strain out the grounds and enjoy the coffee concentrate over ice with a bit of your favorite creamer.
enjoy!
HERE is a more extensive article on cold brew methods in case you like a little more info.

colors of fall
Earlier today the boys and I made these stained glass wax paper leaves. It was fun but I admit that I think I liked it the most. They thought it was super cool to watch the crayons melt into a mess of colors underneath the paper towels but I did most of the cutting. It makes a pretty colorful little window display for the fall though don't you think? (excuse the dirty window please)
I am still taking down halloween and birthday decorations from mondays festivities. I was a mess on tuesday morning when I awoke after the candy coma - worst migraine ever so I laid around most of the day and such has been much of the week...it's friday and there are still things lingering around from it all but I am determined to finally clean it up this weekend and start getting into gear for the holiday season.
It's been such a crazy year I really can not believe it is already november. It is so true what they say about the days being long but the years being short with kids in the house. I am so looking to this holiday season with the kids getting older and getting excited about it all - makes me feel like a kid too.
I will be back later this evening with mine and Kristen's fourth entry in the capturing our blessings project. I am planning to include a linky today for the few who are joining us this month is savoring the sweet snapshots each day, things that we are so grateful for. There is plenty of time to join in and link up and I hope you will because we would love to see what makes your heart stir with thanksgiving this season.
Happy friday everyone may your fall weekend be full of life, color and blessings. I will also be back monday with an easy little tutorial to share!

Last year my Sister in Law, Kristen and I hosted a project called Capturing our Blessings over on the old Ten on Ten blog. The project was simple, we each took one photo a day during the month of November. The idea to capture the moments, the beautiful gifts we have been given, that make our hearts sing with gratitude. We posted them side by side as a diptych and to see how amazing our gifts paralleled each other at times was incredible.
We also invited others to participate with us by posting one wordless photo per day on your own blogs during the month and included a linky each Friday for those who wanted to share their own moments of gratitude as we paused through the special season of Thanksgiving.
Kristen and I have decided to keep that tradition alive this year and will be posting a wordless diptych each evening sharing a sliver of what makes our hearts stir with joy this month. If you would like to join in feel free to post links in the comment section and I will include a linky on Fridays too if you feel lead to share a special moment.
I am so excited to do this again. I loved what we captured last year in fact looking back through the month made me tear up remembering that time with a new baby and the holiday season upon us. I hope that you will enjoy getting a tiny glimpse of the gratitude we have for the lives we have been given and consider joining in! To check out last years photos go HERE and scroll down from the 30th at the top all the way down to November 1st!
